London Art Fair

London art fair was held again in Islington with participating exhibiters commenting it was particularly busy this year. At the fair African artists on show were Ivorian artist Aboudia and Hamidou Maiga from Burkina Faso.

Over in east London at Rivington Place a show of a rarely seen archive dating from 1904, created by English missionary Alice Seeley Harris in the Congo Free State will run through Jaunuary and Feburary.

Tiwani Gallery has put together a solo exhibition by Nigerian photographer Andrew Esiebo which focus on barbershops in different regions of Africa the show titled Pride is a photographic investigation of the relationship between hairstyles as well as individual and collective identities, which brings to mind the works by the Nigerian photographer J.D Okhai Ojeikere. Kamba Gallery is looking to exhibit a selection of pieces from Ojeikere seminal series Hairstyles which consists of black and white photographs of the intricate hairstyles worn by Nigerian women. Kamba Gallery will also be showing a series of limited edition screen prints by the emerging Nairobi artist Kiboko.
